Even as President Kenyatta fights his deputy, William Ruto, there is a cold war is cooking between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Gideon Moi, something that might ruin the president’s 2022 gameplan.
According to sources, the war would have gone out of proportion at the moment but the fact that the two have one common enemy- DP Ruto that keeps them together.
The silent war made Raila and Gideon organize a meeting at former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma home in Karen before Raila proceeded to Kitengela to meet Francis Atwoli.
It is believed that Uhuru trusts Gideon Moi than Raila. The war about who will be the flag-bearer for the 2022 presidential race with both parties laying a claim and each seeking Uhuru’s support.
Our sources claim that Gideon has told those close to him that he is going for nothing less than the presidency seat in the next general election. According to Moi, when he was re-elected for Baringo senatorial seat in 2017, he made it clear that his win was a stepping stone in his political career and he was not going to step back.
The dream of the Baringo Senator was further fueled by the role his family bestowed on him when he was passed his father’s leadership baton.
Before his father’s death, Gideon has been in the shadows and playing the role of an obedient son but after the family leadership baton passed to him, the senator has seriously started fighting for the land’s top seat.
Adding to his political ambitions is the idea that Kenyatta is more comfortable with him leading the country rather than Raila.
Sources close to Raila claim that he has felt insecure since the entrance of Gideon Moi in the Uhuru’s pact. Raila is said to have smelt a rat of the sealed Jubilee/Kanu political move.
Raila’s camp fears that if President Uhuru stands with Gideon for the top seat, the scion of the country’s second president not deliver the victory even with their support, more so if the DP Ruto will also be on the ballot.
According to Odinga’s camp, they believe that Gideon cannot deliver even in his own back yard even as a presidential candidate or running mate, and hence they will walk out of the handshake the moment Uhuru will declare Gideon as his successor.
But, Baringo senator believes he has the resources and the political network to deliver victory is picked as the flagbearer with the former premier as his running mate or taking the prime minister position if the constitution is changed.
Moi argues that Raila has become a polarising figure who cannot deliver victory following his failure to clinch the top seat in the last four presidential elections he has vied and it could only be ideological correct for him to become his running mate or take the prime minister position.

In addition, he believes that Raila doesn’t have enough financial funding for a serious presidential campaign more so given in the past he mostly relied on raised funds. Our sources have established that if Raila is appointed as the flagbearer, the Moi’s family will not spend even a penny on Raila’s campaign.
Gideons is seriously focused on the presidency and would explain why he has previously held talks with Raila’s allies; Kalonzo Musyoka and Mombasa governor Hassan Joho so that he can win them over.
on the other side of the coin, State House fears that if Uhuru declares Gideon Moi, Raila, and Ruto may team-up.
Raila’s camp believes that the ODM leader still has a large support base and therefore he should be the flagbearer while Gideon can not be relied upon to deliver home victory. But still, Gideon is adamant about his ambitions and is not ready to back off for anything less than the presidency.
