Inside Kenya Kwanza Infight That Is Threatening To Tear Apart The DP Ruto-led Alliance

Date:

Cracks in Kenya Kwanza are deepening with Chama Kazi party leader Moses Kuria and his Tujibebe Wakenya counterpart William Kabogo complaining about mistreatment.

On Thursday, the duo decided to skip the alliance’ campaigns in Kiambu led by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who is also DP William Ruto’s running mate and instead met to discuss the issue. They have also completely withdrawn from Kenya Kwanza’s campaigns until the matter is resolved lest they get embarrassed and demonized in public  again.

This comes after Kabogo and UDA gubernatorial candidate Kimani Wamatangi clashed in a rally in Kiambu on Wednesday.

Wamatangi, Kabogo and Kuria are eyeing Kiambu gubernatorial seat but Kuria and Kabogo claim that Wamatangi and other UDA candidates are being favored by the coalition.

In a joint statement addressed to Ruto, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula, they raised several complaints while seeking to have a meeting to resolve the issues.

The duo claimed that UDA members were barred from attending an activation event that had been organized by Kuria in Thika, yet he had invited the them as Kenya Kwanza members in good faith. That was on Monday June 13.

The same date, Kuria and Kabogo claim that Ruto and Gachagua met  with UDA candidates from Kiambu county in Karen to plan for a major rally and activation exercise in Ndumberi on Saturday. Both Kuria’s CCK and Kabogo’s TWP were not invited.

“It was agreed that the primary objective of UDA  party in Kiambu was to campaign for senator Wamatangi as the UDA candidate for gubernatorial seat,” part of their statement read.

They alleged that Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa  was given money to give MCA so that they campaign for Wamatangi after a separate meeting with UDA MPs and MCAs where they were directed not to associate with CCK and TWP.

“It was again reiterated that there is no party called Kenya Kwanza and  any aspirant associating with other Kenya Kwanza parties will be disciplined ruthlessly,” the statement further read.

They also cited a case where TSP party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri was embarrassed before DP Ruto and DP party leader Justin Muturi in Nyahururu.

Kuria and Kabogo believe that UDA is only after Kenya Kwanza parties that have strong support in Mt. Kenya region since it is clear to  them that ANC, Ford Kenya, PAA from the coastal region and Alfred Mutua’s party MCC have faced no frustrations and what they referred to as intimidation and blackmail.

“We did not leave the abusive Jubilee house to replace it with another  abusive one in the name of UDA,” they told Ruto.

Kabogo later on Thursday went on to address the people of Thika revealing that the root of their frustration was to disagree with Ruto over his choice of Gachagua as his running mate.

“William Ruto and his UDA party want to dissolve all parties and I have rejected that. What they did to me and Waititu is what they are trying to do now. That Wamatangi will be chosen by force. I had opposed the choice of Rigathi Gachagua, that is how our differences began. That guy is a dictator and my mistake was to tell the truth. I told William Ruto he will lose lots of votes because of him,” he said.
