Foreign Affairs CS Nominee Alfred Mutua has outlined plans that will bring an end to the suffering that Kenyans have been going through in foreign countries, especially In Saudi Arabia.
Speaking during his vetting, Mutua revealed that in the last three months, a total of 85 Kenyans have died mysteriously in The Gulf while 1000 others have been repatriated.
“It is quite unfortunate that as we sit here, Kenyans have died and been mistreated in some parts of the world, where they go to seek employment,” the former Machakos governor said.
He noted that he had looked into the matter and he was able to establish the secret behind the inhumane actions Kenyans have encountered overseas.
“I have looked into the matter and I have seen systematic failure in systems from how they are recruited here and how they are let to operate in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other places. The kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a friendly country. The kingdom and government of Saudi Arabia are not involved in this,” Mutua said.
Mutua further faulted those who have been blaming the women that have found themselves in difficult situations while in Saudi Arabia.
Among his plans that seek to oversee the wellbeing of Kenyans in the Gulf after being cleared and sworn in as CS is is working on the employment systems.
“I am going to ensure that I work with the labor team/ministry to ensure there are systems in this country so that we are able to know who really needs to go overseas, how it is done, are these girls trained, how do they get to go there. When they arrive in Saudi Arabia and other countries, do we monitor where they live, etc.
Aside from the stringent measures, Mutua said that he will make his first trip to Saudi Arabia to take care of the problem.
He further said that he will work closely with the Interior Ministry and Saudi Arabian Embassy and government so that DCI can accompany him to Saudi Arabia to investigate every death that occurred and those responsible brought to book and charged.
“These are Kenyan lives we need to send a message that no Kenyan would die or get overseas and the government does nothing about it,” he said.
