IEBC Lawyer Reveals Why Supreme Court Will Not Nullify Presidential Elections In The Much Awaited Ruling

Date:

Lawyer Steve Ogolla, who is part of the legal team that represented IEBC in this year’s general election presidential petition, is confident that the Supreme court will uphold the results that were announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, whereby William Ruto was declared the president-elect.

According to him, the threshold for nullification of the presidential elections was not achieved therefore there is no doubt that CJ Martha Koome and her team will uphold the results.

“As an election law practitioner well-grounded on the law and facts underpinning the petition, I entertain no doubt that the threshold for nullification was not achieved. The Supreme Court will have no difficulty in upholding the results of the presidential election,” the lawyer said in a statement.

The IEBC legal team was led by professor Githu Muigai who defended the outcome of the elections, saying that it was conducted in accordance with the constitution adding that the problem lies within persons who participate in the elections.

“There is nothing wrong with IEBC or Wafula Chebukati. There is something very wrong in the way the persons who participate in the electoral process accept winning or losing,” Muigai said in his submissions on Thursday last week.
