Renown human rights activist and Busia senator Okiya Omtatah escaped unhurt after being involved in an accident along Kisumu-Busia highway.
The senator was heading to his homecounty when a trailer hit the vehicle he was travelling in, a Nissan AD.
Photos shared online indicate that the vehicle was badly ruined at the front.
Omtatah said that the driver of the trailer lost control of the vehicle at Ojola area, and hit his vehicle, a move that saw them veer off the road.
“The vehicle hit mine as I tried to swerve. The trailer landed in a ditch. It was going to be a bad accident but I was lucky. By the time it reached my vehicle, it was moving aside. I had a driver,” he said.
Omatatah says he escaped unhurt as he had his seat belt on.
“The car did not roll. I had my seatbelt on so I did not get any injuries. All is well,” he said.
He added that officers from Maseno intervened and offered him a landcruiser to take him home.
“The driver of the trailers said his brakes failed. The vehicle could not move police from Maseno gave me a Landcruiser to drive me home.”
