“Uhuru fought me, frustrated and humiliated me, despite my loyalty to him,” William Ruto says.
President William Ruto has claimed that despite his loyalty to President Uhuru Kenyatta, he was humiliated and frustrated by him.
Speaking at Eldoret State Lodge, President Ruto drew on his friendship with the former President to urge local Rift Valley leaders to support their candidates and voters.
Reminding them that he appointed Mr. Kenyatta recently and that he is currently in power, he urged them to remain true to their loyal supporters.
“Despite my years of commitment to him, Uhuru battled me, frustrated me, and made me feel embarrassed. He betrayed me by standing with those who had never backed him, but where is he now? I am the President now,” Dr. Ruto declared, allegedly according to one of the MPs at the meeting.
“The former President does not depend on the goodwill of President Ruto for the peace initiatives he is involved in. Even if it was an appointment, it was a personal choice, not an employment he was looking for. He has been honoured for what he did while in office. He must have commanded respect to be given this assignment,” says Jubilee secretary general, Jeremiah Kioni.
As the coordinator of the East African Community-led Nairobi peace negotiations and an African Union peace envoy, Uhuru Kenyatta has been visiting the Democratic Republic of the Congo for peace mediation talks.
