Former police spokesman Mr. Charles Owino Wahongo on Saturday found himself at loggerheads with Siaya locals after he took to the podium to speak.
Charles Owino who had attended Oburu Odinga’s senatorial bid in Siaya county in Bondo brought back past memories which did not augur well with those who had attended the function.
The former police spokesman raised a very emotive issue when he reminded the audience that he is the one who was in government and partly contributed to Raila not making it to the presidency.
“My name is Owino Charles, I am the one who was in the government and have all that Raila needs to be president so you should listen to me keenly.” He said only for his sentiments to attract huge resistance from the people at the function.
Not only was Charles Owino booed but he was also told off by supporters of various opponents. His attempts to beg the locals to give him a listening ear were futile since they did not want anything to do with him again.
They literally blocked him from speaking and the organizers of the event had to take the microphone from the former police spokesman for the sake of peace. The defiant police spokesman however dismissed the hecklers as a few people who were paid by his opponents.
Charles Owino was amongst the leaders who attended Oburu Odinga’s function at Bondo. Oburu’s decision to go for the seat however attracted mixed reactions with most residents accusing the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) of recycling the same old faces in Siaya county at the expense of the young generation.
Specifically, the voters took offense with three leaders namely senator James Orengo who wants to be the governor after serving for two terms in the senate, Dr. Oburu Odinga who wants to be the senator after serving as an MP at EALA and most importantly Dr. Chrustine Ombaka who wants to be the woman rep again after serving two terms.
Despite being aged, Christine Ombaka is not just willing to give room for other young women from Siaya county to grow. The woman rep position was supposed to be an affirmative action seat to empower many women but Ombaka has turned it into her bedroom instead of going for a higher seat like Homabay woman rep Gladys Wanga to pave way for other women.
Charles Owino is eyeing the Siaya gubernatorial seat on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
