Mr. Wise, a Kamba artist was allegedly assaulted on Saturday night by unknown individuals over a song he did praising DP William Ruto.
The song in question titled Ruto Rais Wa Kesho was published on YouTube in September last year and it is about to clock a million views.
“It really pains me. What happened was shocking. It was around 12 am and I decided to leave for home from where I was. When I was about to arrive, while taking a bend, a black car blocked me. Four people came out, forcing me out of my car. They took me to the back seat and beat me so badly. One of the guys took control of the vehicle. The next thing I knew was we were deep in Machakos in Kaseve and it was around 1 am. I was taken to the bushes where I was thoroughly beaten,” Wise narrated in an interview with Nicholas Kioko.
According to him, they questioned him why he had not deleted DP William Ruto’s song after a previous warning.
“But no one has ever asked me to delete the song. The things I have met with regarding the song are very different. They took my phone wanting to delete the song but it was off,” he said
Since the phone was off, the perpetrators decided to go for a second option, by demanding his email and password.
“I was so confused that I could not remember anything. They took a pair of pliers and bit my finger with it. They strangled me. If I had recalled it, I would have given them,” the artist said.
Having no other option, the attackers decided to give him two days to have the song deleted from YouTube and left him in the bushes.
When it dawned, he managed to find his way back to the road where he found his car still intact but his Kshs 20,000 was missing and his phone broken. He managed to drive himself to a hospital where he was told to first report the incident to the police.
Before Saturday’s incident, the artist claims that some people had approached him, over a year ago, asking him to pull down the audio version of the song that he had uploaded saying that he has to be paid first for the good job he had done. They even offered him Kshs50,000. The people in question however went silent and he could not reach them on the phone. After about a year, that is when he decided to publish the video.
Wise is now fearing for his life and can not go back to his home because he is afraid of what might befall him.
“I have never wronged anyone . I did a song for Ruto because I wanted to. Why are they attacking me. An artist can do any song, if you don’t like it leave it. I can not go to my house because I don’t know who is waiting for me, now I can’t use my car. I am so scared,” the artist said said.
