A light moment was witnessed during the launch of of Raila Odinga’s AUC chairmanship bid at the statehouse on Tuesday, when former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, was called to address the gathering by president William Ruto.
In a video shared online, when Ruto called Obasanjo to the podium, he signaled an aid to bring a stepping board that would have elevated Obasanjo’s height so that he could comfortably address the audience.
However, when Obasanjo arrived the podium, he tried pushing away the stepping board with his leg. His efforts were futile, forcing him to bend and remove it with his own hands.
He then cleared his throat and said that he was not short as he was presumed to be.
“I am not as short as you think I am,” Obasanjo said, leaving the audience in stiches.
He went on to express his confidence in Raila saying that he would make Africa proud.
“He will make Africa proud, he will make Africa powerful, he will make Africa peaceful and he will make Africa prosperous. We need it all and you can count on us for support and you have seen,” he said.
“If we support you and you get there, we have the responsibility to make sure you succeed. We will do our part, we pray to God that you do your part,”
