Kenyans on Twitter including politicians have ruthlessly attacked DP William Ruto over his comment on hiked prices of Maize flour.

The second in command tweeted on Wednesday evening referring to the Kshs200 price per 2kg of the flour as a historic one.

At the same time DP Ruto claimed that such was being witnessed because some measures had not been put in place so that farmers would be able to produce more than enough foodstuffs.

“A packet of Unga is now retailing at a historic price of more than Sh200. It is sad. Millions of Kenyans are burdened by the high cost of living because of failure to put in place interventions such as farm inputs subsidy that could allow farmers produce enough to eat and surplus for sale,” the presidential hopeful said.

His remarks however did not sit well a number of netizens especially with his opposers as they used the opportunity to bash and criticize him saying that he is in government yet he was complaining like a common citizen. Kitui governor Charity Ngilu was not left behind.

“The Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya complains (like the rest of the Kenyans) about the high cost of living in Kenya and lack of Government interventions from the same government where he serves as the second in command. Who will save Kenyans?” She posed.

“Fellow Kenyans, this is just to remind you that Hon. William Samoei Ruto is the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. He is firmly in office and earning salary and drawing allowances as required by law. He should be asked why the price of unga is unbearable,” Philip Etale, ODM’s Communication Director noted.

“What’s even sadder is that all you and your opponents do is keep on dragging each other’s names through the mud. Meanwhile, Wanjiku pays the price,” another netizen tweeted.

“Hauna aibu hata… You have been the deputy president for 10 years,” Collo said.

Others went ahead to share a video clip of Ruto and Hussein Mohamed’s past interview at Citizen TV where he said that together with president Kenyatta they will take responsibility if anything goes wrong in government and another one where he promised that maize flour price will be reduced to Kshs60 per Kg during campaigns of 2013 elections.
