How Kenya Will Benefit If Raila Wins AU Seat

Date:

Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and Opposition leader Raila Odonga held a joint press briefing at Mudavadi’s office in railways.

In his speech, Mudavadi noted that preparations are underway for the bid ahead of the deadline of submitting the regional candidate which is on August 6 2024.

According to him, the campaigns are led by the state, which has so far formulated a campaign secretariat including Raila’s strategy team, to ensure that he clinches the seat.

“The secretariat will prepare all briefs for use by the candidate, develop campaign materials and prepare the debate to be broadcast live for African citizens. This will take place 6 months before the election date,” Mudavadi said.

He added that the team was currently finalizing the application procedure.

On the other hand, Raila said that he is required to be supported by the government hence his meeting with Mudavadi.

According to him, there have been many questions as to why he decided to go for the position.

“Many of my friends from outside Kenya approached me and told me that this position of AU is becoming vacant next year. They have looked around the continent and feel that among the people who may offer themselves, you have the best credentials to take this organization forward.

“After lots of soul searching and consultation among my colleagues and friends, I made the decision to accept the request,” Raila said.

He added that working at the AU for five years gave him an insight of the organization.

Raila said that he has enough knowledge and experience to move AU forward.

Responding to questions from journalists, the leaders also explained how Kenya will benefit if Raila scoops the position.

“A prosperous Kenya is dependant on a prosperous Africa. As Raila champions issues that affect the African continent, Kenya is part and parcel of what he will be championing we are sure that as he moves across the continent Kenya is part of what he will be championing,” the CS said, adding that Raila’s quest is a matter of interest for Kenyan.

Raila on the other hand said, “Kenya is part of Africa, what Kenya is going to get is equivalent to what the rest of Africa is going to get. If we improve matters in Africa, Kenya becomes a beneficiary.”
