Deputy president William Ruto was caught up in a humiliating situation after he contradicted himself exposing how he just says things to please crowds.
The words Ruto said in Mombasa during a rally came back to haunt after his speech on Mashujaa Day celebration in Kirinyaga.
In Mombasa, Ruto strongly criticized his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta while in Kirinyaga he heaped praises on the head of state.
Speaking during an empowerment programme of Likoni Boda Boda operators and small-scale businesses on October 17th, Ruto publicly called Uhuru ‘tapeli’ which means ‘conman’ in English.
”Si mimi nilisukuma nikasukuma Raila hata karibu niende Hague hadi akawa prime minister? nikasukuma nikasukuma rafiki yangu Uhuru kenyatta akawa rais, Maraga akaleta shida tena nikasukuma yeye hadi akawa rais? sasa saizi wameanza kuniweka majina, sijui mimi ni mkora, sijui mimi ni mwizi. siku ile mimi nilikuwa nasupport Raila Odinga walisema mimi ni mtu mzuri, siku ile nilikuwa na support Uhuru Kenyatta mimi nilikuwa mtu mzuri. leo nasema nisaidie hustler wanasema mimi ni mkora. hawa watu si ni matapeli? wakwende bwana,” said Ruto.
In his speech on Mashujaa Day October 20th, Ruto praised Uhuru as a transformative leader whose good legacy and development agenda would guide whoever succeeds him.
A cartoon of Ruto delivering contradicting speech in Mombasa and Kirinyaga went viral on social media as netizens mocked the DP being a kigeugeu – lacking direction.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma offered to reward the cartoonist who destroyed Ruto with a Ksh20,000 cash prize.
“This Cartoonist should collect his sh.20,000 from me ASAP! DM for my phone number,” Kaluma tweeted.
