Kenyans should brace themselves for further difficult times ahead as Pembe Flour Mills increases the cost of their products.
The products, which include maize meal, porridge flour and wheat flour, will cost higher with the miller blaming that on the increased cost of raw materials.
In a notice addressed to the company’s partners, the miller warned that it will not be able to process pending orders at old prices, meaning that those with pending orders will have to dig deeper in their pockets to have their orders processed.
“We are witnessing extraordinary circumstances in the economy. We are also facing the consequences of a drastic increase in the prices of procurement of raw materials. As a result, we will unfortunately be unable to process any pending orders at old prices. Your understanding in this sensitive cost matter will be appreciated,” Pembe Mills said.
The notice was signed by A.M. Asad, who is the firm’s credit control manager.
The new prices, both wholesale and retail, were immediately not available.
Currently, a 2Kgs packet of pembe maize flour goes for Kshs201 at Carrefour while the same quantity of wheat flour is being sold at Kshs185.
“Korokoro(2kgs) in the next few weeks inaenda kufika 200/- or more, Maize flour is already 200/- per 2kg packet and Suluhu amekazia mahindi TZ hakuna export to Kenya. So buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride,” a netizen warned.
“1pkt of pembe maize flour in Kenya today is ksh200, our president see this,” another complained.
Recently the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority announced that fuel prices have shot up by Kshs9. Due to that petrol now retails at Ksh159.12 per litre, diesel is being sold at Ksh140 per litre while kerosene costs Ksh127 per litre.
Hiked fuel prices have generally caused the increase in the cost of living.
