Mining CS Ali Hassan Joho made unannounced visit at the Madini House, leaving the management surprised and perplexed.
Joho confronted the for not being serious with their work, leading to illegal mining.
This is after they failed to identify the source of the mineral that had been brought in for testing.
One of the directors informed the CS that some clients were reluctant to diclose information from where the minerals had come from.
“We have a challenge in establishing the origin of the sample because when … most of the client will come but when you ask them to disclose the information they have fears,” the director told Joho and his team.
Joho however told them off saying, “Wacheni mchezo bwana, you are the ones supporting illegal mining. So you come and test samples just for anybody who doesn’t disclose the source. Director hii ni ujinga gani sasa. Somebody can go afanye illegal mining awaletee nyinyi mtest, you certify for them and export.”
In a further consultation, Joho noted that the management wasn’t collecting accurate data because they weren’t aware of the sources of the minerals they were testing.
