Learning in public High Schools has continued to be paralyzed with the ongoing Teachers Strike that has entered the second week.
Several schools across the country have since resorted to sending students home due to the situation at hand.
Some of the schools include those in Nakuru, Machakos, Kirinyaga and Meru counties.
In Nakuru County, Jomo Kenyatta Boys Secondary School, Jomo Kenyatta Girls’ Secondary School and Nakuru High send form one to form three students home on Monday morning because no learning was ongoing.
“We received information early Monday morning that we should expect our children back home because there were no teachers in the school to teach and look after them,” said a parent from Jomo Kenyatta.
Several KUPPET branch heads have urged parents to pick their children as teachers are not planning to end their strike soon until their demands are heard and met by the Teachers Service Commission.
Some of KUPPET demands to resume duty include promotion of teachers with higher qualifications but have stagnated in the same job groups, Hiring of JSS teachers on permanent terms, salary increments and streamlining of their medical benefits.
“Our struggle is not for the Sh10,050 increment. Teachers have loans to pay and may have invested in further education, yet without a review of career progression, their efforts are being undermined.
“The employer has refused to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of teachers who have gone an extra mile to further their education, they have refused to promote these teachers, thereby denying them the dignity and the respect they deserve,” KUPPET secretary General Akelo Misori said on Sunday.
