Mike Sonko directed his anger at Daily Nation journalist Silas Apollo who went hard on him in an uncompromisingly direct and honest editorial published on the newspaper.
In his piece, Silas Apollo referred Sonko as a criminal recording artist following his audio and video leaks that exposed the rot in the judiciary.
The Daily Nation journalist detailed how Sonko has a habit of recording private conversations and sharing them on social media.
Sonko hit back at Silas Apollo in a lengthy post on social media, he explained that his recordings have helped expose corruption and stop graft altogether.
Below is Sonko’s reply;
I just came across the story below that ran in the Sunday Nation yesterday by a mentally malnourished journalist called Silas Apollo who referred to me to as a criminal and recording artist. I wish to make my response as follows:
Foremost, nothing and no one will divert me from dealing with the current rot in the Judiciary.
Secondly, the useless journalist wrote about how I put His Excellency the President on speakerphone in 2014, but in his laziness he doesn’t explain the reason why I did that. I think the memories are still very fresh on how properties were being demolished by Government bulldozers under the supervision of the then Cabinet Secretary Felix Kosgey and a contingent of over 200 armed police officers. The affected buildings included a mosque, Winners Chapel Church, St. Bakita kindergarten, Warma secondary school, Diamond Park Estates one and two, Eagle Plain Estate, Bank villa Estate owned by Kenya bankers association and executive housing estate all worth over 8 Billion.
I responded to a distress call from the area residents and on reaching at the scene, the demolition exercise was ongoing and some residential buildings had already gone down. On spotting the CS at the scene, I had no choice but to call his boss, none other than the President, whom I had already called while on the way and we agreed immediately I reach at the scene and on assessing the situation I should call him, which I did. When he picked my call I decided to put him on speaker in presence of the CS, police officers and all media houses present.
The President just responded with one positive word, ‘Hiyo nasimamisha saa hizi.’ It was at this juncture that all the over 200 police officers and the CS stopped the demolition and withdrew all the bulldozers from the scene. To-date, all these buildings are still there and, apart from this, I spearheaded the regularisation of the documentation for all the properties in question.
On the issue of being a recording artist, I don’t regret it at all. Which Kenyan could have believed in the allegations I had against these merchants of injustice without the evidence, which was acquired through audio and video recording?
For your information, some were even done by gadgets provided by various investigative agencies where I reported some of these Judiciary corruption cases. To make the long story short and since the matter is now official before the JSC, I will not go to the details of the case but here is a scenario where a whole high court judge is captured in a video footage negotiating on behalf of his colleague on a certain case whose judgement was about to be delivered.
In the said video clip the judge is clearly seen and heard saying his colleague has asked for 5 million shillings in order to rule in favour of certain lawyer against a widow who was forced to deposit 58 million shillings in court. The judge further says that, out of the 5m which is going to his colleague, 1m was supposed to be his commission. Further, in another video clip the judge is admitting to some people, one of them being the Majority Leader of the Nairobi County Assembly (the seconder of my impeachment motion) went to his house to discuss my impeachment case which was before the court and that arrangements have already been made for me not be allowed back to the office by all means.
I wish to call upon my supporters and all Kenyans of goodwill to ignore the types of Silas Apollo and his type of cheap, rent-seeking journalists who long sold their souls at the alter of impunity and injustice, opting to be the mouthpieces of those who thrive by suppressing the will and voice of Kenyans.
It is even a shame that a national newspaper would publish such ignorance and tasteless innuendo, in an effort to divert the country’s attention from the pertinent issues I have raised, something that millions of suffering Kenyans are not able to.
