Rift Valley regional commissioner George Natembeya was unveiled as Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) flag bearer in the Trans Nzoia’s gubernatorial race.
Natembeya announced his intentions to succeed governor Patrick Khaemba in this year’s general elections in September last year. Khaemba’s two-year term will be expiring in August this year.
He however did not mention the party that he would be using to achieve his political ambitions then.
DAP-K, a party associated with Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, was officially launched on December 14, 2021.
Speaking in a Western region conference at Sikhendu stadium, CS Wamalwa said that Natembeya was the perfect person to be in charge of Trans Nzoia county.
“For 10 years we were stuck in Ford Kenya’s mud,who is the one going to save us?” Wamalwa posed as the crowd shouted,” Natembeya.”
Natembeya will be facing the likes of Trans Nzoia women rep Janet Nangabo, Kiminini MP and Ford Kenya Secretary General Chris Wamalwa, Trans Nzoia County’s Finance Executive Boniface Wanyonyi former Agriculture Executive Andrew Wanyonyi, businessman Moses Khaoya and Philomen Samoei who have shown interest in the position.
The party also welcomed defectors from Ford Kenya and Federal party of Kenya, led by Andrew Kutitila.
DAP-K has been deemed Ford Kenya’s replacement and is being predicted as the next big party in Western and Nyanza region.
The party is backing Raila Odinga’s candidature in the August 9 General elections.
