The head that was recently recovered from Kiambaa dam in Kiambu county has been positively identified as Rita Waeni’s.
The slain university student’s family identified the head at City Mortuary based on the forehead, teeth and hair.
The family was also able to identify the blouse that was covering her head when it was discovered.
Following the identification, government pathologist Johansen Oduor will now proceed with autopsy to further establish the cause of Waeni’s death.
The dismembered body of the 20-year old was discovered on January 14, 2024 at an Airbnb in Roysambu. Her head was however missing.
Investigators are suspecting that the murder is part of an ongoing occultism in the country.
“It looks like a ritual which I think was motivated by a cult-like belief,” a detective said.
Investigations are now going on to establish whether there are similar killings.
Waeni was a fourth year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology.
