State Department for Housing and Urban Development PS, Charles Hinga Mwaura has disputed the possibility of funds being stolen in the ongoing National Hygiene Programme – Kazi Mtaani.
PS Hinga was responding to a member of the public who claimed that another scandal is in waiting in the Kazi Mtaani project.
“On this one, it won’t happen. If you find any, I am ready to be hanged at Uhuru Park in broad daylight,” the PS said.
The private citizen by the name Joshua Njenga was commenting on the reported scandals that has rocked the COVID-19 donation funds.
“If you are shocked by coronavirus billionaires, wait until you hear the story Kazi Mtaani billionaires. They are the same people but they have different names for their billions,” Njenga claimed.
In his response to the claim, PS Hinga defended the government project stating that the government had come up with a mechanism to prevent any loopholes that may lead to extortion from the initiative.
“We have put some serious safeguard measures to avoid any shenanigans. The EACC is already invited to investigate allegations of chiefs extorting cash from the youth,” the PS said as reported by The Star.
The PS had previously denied accusations of financial manipulations, nepotism, and nonpayment of wages in the Kazi Mtaani.
The National Treasury allocated Sh10 billion to the program that was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta on April 25 and piloted in informal settlements from eight counties targeting unemployed youths.
The program has now been rolled in all the 47 counties.
