ODM Secretary General and the current senator of Nairobi Edwin Sifuna claims that President William Ruto is seeking to have control of parliament, a day after the head of state made an impromptu visit to the parliament and had lunch with a number of lawmakers.
Speaking to a local TV station, Sifuna said that the main reason why Ruto wants to control the parliament is to have those he proposed as cabinet secretaries successfully ascend to their respective positions even those with integrity issues and questionable characters such as Aisha Jumwa and Moses Kuria.
Jumwa was proposed as CS for the Public service and gender ministry while Kuria was nominated CS for Trade, Investments, and Industry
“I understand why the president would want to have absolute control of parliament because then who is the majority determines the chairs of the committees, the numbers in committees. He has an agenda. You have seen the sort of names he has put forward for his cabinet.
“He knows that if we have control of those committees, there are names that I have already proclaimed can not be cabinet secretaries in this country, like Aisha Jumwa, Moses Kuria. They don’t have probity to be cabinet secretaries. Aisha Jumwa is incompetent. She can not do anything,” Sifuna said.
Justifying his remarks on Jumwa, Sifuna said that he was her party secretary general for four years and has all details about her performance on duties that were delegated to her while she was in ODM.
“I am speaking as her SG, I don’t even know when she left the party, but I have her file. I know the levels of her education. We have seen her capacity as our representative in the parliamentary service Commission. We have seen her ability to even articulate issues as MP for Malindi. She simply is not the material that they would take as CS. They would rather take someone like Cherargei(Nandi senator). This is someone who is qualified,” he said.
