Govt Issues Warning on Night Travels

Date:

The national government has warned Kenyans against travelling at night following a tragic accident that left 14 people injured.

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura advised passengers to avoid travelling at night when there is low visibility.

The rain had damaged some sections of the road and even caused floods which could affect night travels, Mwaura explained.

“While planning for your travel upcountry, we may not have the latest update for the condition of the road we are trying to use. It is thus advisable not to drive when it is still raining and especially when the visibility is less than 100 meters which might compromise your safety,” he explained.

“Night travel should be minimised as much as possible and ensure that your vehicle is mechanically prepared for the journey ahead. Have with you the necessary survival kits, warm clothes, drinking water, and warm food.”

He further advised parents to minimise travelling with children since the roads were still dangerous.

“If possible, do not travel with children at this time. Further do not drive in or through rivers or in flooded areas, moving or stagnant waters. It is important that you take your time and wait for it to subside or turn around,” he reiterated.
