“My friend. Things changed. I’ll deal with you all,” Governor Sakaja warms Mike Sonko.
A bitter exchange unfolded on social media between Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. The feud began when Sakaja accused Member of Parliament Babu Owino of being part of a group allegedly planning to sabotage the school feeding program by poisoning free food meant for children. This accusation triggered an exchange of words, revealing underlying beef and political differences.
Governor Sakaja initiated the tweef by taking to his social media account to accuse MP Babu Owino of involvement in a sinister plot to harm school children who benefit from the school feeding program. Sakaja’s tweet named several individuals, including Tim, Lydia Kwamboka, Josephine Kithu, and Tom Tinega, in connection with the alleged conspiracy.
Sakaja’s tweet read, “Meeting at Asmara planning to harm children in the school feeding program. Babu, Tim, Lydia Kwamboka, Josephine Kithu, Tom Tinega… leave the children out of this. I’ll face you in 2027. Don’t poison children for your political goals. And you can’t, it’s their parents cooking. Or now if you’d like. Nyalenda and Bungoma express. Lazima iWork!”
In response to Sakaja’s allegations, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko fired back. He questioned Sakaja’s involvement in a seemingly simple and normal meeting, asking if people in Nairobi can’t even gather for a simple tea-drinking session without suspicion.
Sonko tweeted, “Wewe sasa wacha umama kwani watu hii Nairobi hawaezi kukutana kukunywa chai?”
Sakaja, seemingly angered by Sonko’s response, launched a scathing counterattack listing some individuals he had fired for corruption, as well as someone he referred to as “junkie 1” and Sonko’s alleged companion “dem wako wa wash,” were all present at the same place. Sakaja ended his tweet by ominously suggesting that “things changed” and vowed to “deal with” those involved.
Sakaja replied to Sonko saying, “Hapo tu ndio chai inauzwa? Coincidentally? Officers I’ve fired for corruption, junkie 1 na dem wako wa wash at the same place? My friend. Things changed. I’ll deal with you all. Cheki M-PESA nimekutumia rwabe.”
The anger between Sakaja and Sonko appears to have roots in political differences and allegations of misappropriation of county funds. Babu Owino’s initial question to Sakaja about county money expenditure likely contributed to the escalating tensions between the two political figures as Sonko and Babu Owino are now, more than ever close friends.
