Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza is yet again facing another impeachment motion.
Mituguu MCA Evans Mawira wants the controversial governor impeached on grounds of gross misconduct, misappropriation and misuse of county government’s resources.
According to him, the governor is misusing county funds and vehicles for her personal project dubbed Okolea.
“The Governor’s continued stay in office has persistently undermined effective and efficient service delivery and gravely hurt the interests of the people of the County.
“The Governor has, despite a previous impeachment process and warnings from the Senate, persisted in discreditable acts that singly and collectively amount to gross violation of the Constitution, gross violation of various national and county laws, gross abuse of office and gross misconduct,” the MCA stated in his motion.
Aside from that, Mawira insisted that Mwangaza has practised nepotism, by employing her husband’s relative as Meru Youth Service CEO and Acting Chief Officer of the Department of Finance. She also allegedly employed her unqualified sisters.
“The governor has assigned diplomatic duties of engaging with foreign diplomats and dignitaries to her unqualified sisters Miriam Guantai and Rose Guantai,” Mawira said.
He further accused Mwangaza of bullying and demeaning other county leaders, conducting illegal appointments and even naming a public road after her husband.
This is the second time Mwangaza is facing an impeachment. The MCAs wanted her to be impeached last year but the senate committee handling the matter dismissed the case over lack of proof of the accusations that she was facing.
