Governor Gani Ya 40 Thousand? Ruto Chases Broke Kang’ata Over Little Contribution

Date:

Deputy president William Samoei Ruto on Wednesday put Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata on his toes after he only gave out 40,000 Kenya shillings in a harambee.

Ruto had attended Wakili Edward Muriu Pesa Mfukoni Bursary Launch where he was the guest of honor.

Apparently, Senator Irungu Kang’ata who is an aspiring governor in Murang’a county on a UDA ticket gave his contribution of 40 thousand but the second in command could not take it lying down.

As a result, he told him to look for more money and contribute or seek for a loan from him so that his contribution reaches the 100K mark.

“Kwa sababu wewe ndio umeanzisha hi maneno, si unataka governor? hapana 40 thousand haitoshi governor apana we acha iyo. Enda tafuta elfu mia moja ulete uwache kusumbua sisi. Governor gani ya 40 thousand? (Your the one who began this initiative and your now giving us forty thousand Kenya shillings. 40 thousand is not worth a governor position. Go look for one hundred thousand Kenya shillings and stop bothering us here with 40,000. Which governor is worth 40,000?)

“Hakuna governor ya 40 thousand forty? Ehh potea enda tafuta pesa ama namna gani kwani hapa Gatanga iko governor ya 40? Si wewe ndio umeanzisha iyo maneno? Kama ukiishiwa naeza kukukopesha wewe alafu nakudai mbele.” Said Ruto amidst cheers from the crowd. (There is no governor for 40,000. Go look for more money my fren because here in Gatanga the value of a governor is not worth 40,000. You began this initiative and i can lend you money to contribute if you don’t have).

Prior to defecting to Ruto’s side, Irungu Kang’ata who was the Senate Majority Whip, filed a motion to remove Senator Kithure Kindiki from his position as Senate Deputy Speaker.

“I beg to move that the Senate resolves that Senator Kithure Kindiki be removed from the office of the Deputy Speaker,” the notice read in part.

Talk had been rife that Kindiki, an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, was next on the chopping block as internal wrangles continued to rock the Jubilee Party.

With Ruto angling to inherit the Central Kenya support base from President Uhuru Kenyatta, Kindiki had been mentioned as a potential running mate for Ruto in his planned 2022 Presidential bid.

It was argued by some pundits that Kindiki would help secure votes from parts of Mount Kenya including Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nith

The rift between the faction supporting Ruto and that supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta had culminated in the removal of Ruto allies in leadership positions in Parliament.

Kang’ata formally took over as Majority Whip on May 12, when former Majority Whip Susan Kihika and former Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, both allies of the Deputy President William Ruto, were removed from their positions.

The shakeup followed a Jubilee Senate Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting at State House, Nairobi on Monday, May 11 where the changes were approved by president Uhuru Kenyatta.
