Governor Ali Hassan Joho follows Uhuru’s footsteps, takes 80% pay cut

Ali Hassan Joho, the Mombasa governor said he was following the example of President Uhuru Kenyatta who announced that he will be taking 80% pay cut to help his administration mobilise funds that will be pumped in getting rid of the virus.

The county boss further revealed that his deputy William Kingi will follow suit and only pocket 50% of his pay as part of a raft of efforts he has instituted to cushion Mombasa residents from the throes of the scourge.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta started by leading us by example. He also showed us the importance of leaders to sacrifice during hard time. As the Mombasa governor, I have offered to also take 80% pay cut. This money should be contributed in the fight against COVID-19. My deputy will take home 50% of his salary,” Joho said adding that Chief Officers in Mombasa county will take 20% pay cut..

During his address on Thursday, March 26, the county boss said the devolved unit had set aside a tune of KSh 700 million to be used as an economic stimulus for over 200,000 Mombasa residents in case of a lockdown.
