Government Addresses Concerns Of Where To Get Seedlings For Upcoming Tree Planting Holiday

Date:

The government is targeting to plant 100 million trees in the tree planting exercise that will be held on Monday November 13.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki gazetted Monday as a special holiday, solely for the exercise.

Addressing concerns on where to get the seedlings, the ministry of Interior has advised Kenyans to visit their chiefs’ offices to get seedlings for the exercise.

President William Ruto will lead the exercise.

“Following the gazettement of the National Tree Growing Day set for the 13th of November 2023, we urge all Kenyans to participate in the exercise that will be led by H.E President William Ruto. Members of the public are advised to visit their nearest Chief’s office for tree seedlings and liaise with the area Assistant County Commissioner and Deputy County Commissioner in respective Counties,”Interior PS Raymond Omollo said.

On the other hand, Environment CS Soipan Tuya urged Kenyans to also  show the true Kenyan spirit by buying seedlings from nurseries.

“Additionally, there are millions of seedlings in private nurseries, run by women and youth groups in Community Forest Associations and community-based organizations across the country, available at a fee. I would like to urge fellow citizens that in the true Kenyan spirit, let us buy a seedling or two from these community-run nurseries and plant in our shambas,” the CS stated.

She further urged citizen to honour the call of the national duty.

“I know being a public holiday, many of us will take advantage of the break to attend to other private and social obligations, but for the sake of the wellbeing of our environment and for mother nature, and as a call to national duty, I urge all of us to honour the National Tree Growing Day. If each of us planted at least two seedlings on Monday, we will instantly hit the campaign target for the day of 100 Million seedlings,” she said.
