Deputy President William Ruto can now breathe a sigh of relief after police finally gave the all-clear for two of his functions in Nyamira County set for Thursday to proceed.
This comes after DP Ruto was last week forced to postpone the visit following chaos after hours of confrontations between police and his supporters in the wake of new government guidelines on public gatherings.
The police, in separate letters seen by Sonko News, assented to the events however urging the conveners to cooperate with law enforcement officers who will be dispatched to provide security.
Nyamira Police Station Ward Commander Mohamed Sasura, in a letter to West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi, said: “…permission for fundraising for Nyamira South Sub County Boda Boda Sacco scheduled for Thursday 15th October, 2020 at 10.00a.m. at Sironga Sports ground to be presided over by the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto has been granted.”
Mr. Sasura however urged the MP to ensure compliance with the advisory directives by the National Security Advisory Committee (NSAC) as well as adherence to health protocols in regard to COVID-19.
“As the convener, you will work with the police officers to ensure that law and order is maintained. You will be held responsible for any acts of lawlessness and disorder that may arise,” the police boss told the MP.
