Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has no soft spot for Nyanza residents and political leaders who are not in his party.
While speaking in a local dialect at Awendo in Migori, Raila in a dictatorial voice made it clear that no one should ever defect from the orange party since that disadvantages his ODM from getting money from the Political Parties Funds.
At the same time, the opposition leader made it clear that a vote that goes to an independent party is a wasted vote by virtue of the fact that his ODM party stands to lose money.
“You get defeated then go and vie as an independent candidate. Independent candidates spoil for ODM party the opportunity to get money from the government. Votes cast for independent candidates are wasted, are you getting me?
“You must know that political parties’ funds are paid depending on the number of votes the party garnered. They add votes for the MCAs, for the MPs, for the governors, for the senators, for the women reps and finally for the presidents then they divide money on that basis.
“That is why if you’re from the party and you contest as an independent candidate and get support from party members, that is like a spoiled vote you get me?
“Therefore we want those from ODM to remain in ODM but if you’re not in ODM go away!!!!!” Said Raila amidst chants from sections of the crowd.
However, these dictatorial sentiments by Raila Odinga who masquerades as a democrat and a champion of multi party system did not go well with many people from Nyanza region who had the following to say:
“With these careless sentiments from Raila, it is now clear that he only preaches democracy while in other parts of Kenya to hoodwink the public while back at home he is the worst dictator of our time. He has made it clear that you should go away if you cannot embrace six peace and vote for his ODM party.”
“Raila argues that voting for independent candidates in Nyanza disadvantages his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party from getting money. His sentiments might make you think that the ODM money benefits the local man in Nyanza. I wonder how ODM losing money became our problem as Nyanza residents.”
“The dictator is at it again chasing the presidency away. Instead of focusing on the big post and uniting everybody, he is busy engaging in village politics of 6 piece. Raila should decide whether he wants to be the president or whether he wants to campaign for 6 piece because he cannot achieve the two. Personally I support him but am not an ODM member but with his latest sentiments, we will go away with our votes and give to other presidential candidates who need them. We are tired of being carried for children.”
“That’s the worst statement from the 5th, he needs all these people. So no more Azimio La Umoja kama we si wa ODM ukwende mbali?”
“See how the man from Opoda farm is ruining his chances of being president again. He always messes up his chances by such careless sentiments whenever he nears that throne. You might think that Luos have no brain to think and choose their own local leaders. Was he cursed?”
“Personally I need a local leader who will solve my own local problems irrespective of the party they come with. It is unfortunate that Raila who claims to be the champion of multi party politics cannot stand anyone in Nyanza using a different party to go for a seat. The same way devolution was meant for outside regions such as Ukambani because they have benefitted more than the larger Nyanza region whose leaders like Raila pride themselves in championing.”
