Genge artist Nonini, officially known as Hubert Nakitare, is now a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
The rapper shared the news about his new membership with his fans through his social media pages.
“Congratulations. Your ASCAP membership has been approved. Below is your membership information. Keep these details confidential – treat them like your bank account information,” ASCAP told Nonini.
The artist said that he was glad to be a member of the body, which is a non-profit performance rights organization that collectively licenses the public performance rights of its members’ musical works to venues, broadcasters and digital streaming services.
“Make moves that turn into movements! Ni Ile day ni $Furahiday,” he said in a separate post while referring to his latest move.
The news comes just days after Nonini revealed that the termination of his membership from the Music Copyright of Kenya had been approved. He wrote to MCSK in February to have his membership terminated.
“The human society is the extension of the individual. If we really want a radical change in anything, if we want a better world, better leadership and better structures. We need to change the things that are not working by understanding you have the power individually! Inaanza na mtu mjamo,” he said after quitting MCSK.
