Late Dr. James Gakara was not accorded the symbolic ‘last soil’ that is usually thrown in the grave after the coffin is lowered.
Gakara and his two children, 5-year-old son Dylan Gakara and 3-year-old daughter Hailey Karuana, were buried in Nakuru on Tuesday September 28th.
The father and his two children were laid to rest at their Mbaruk home a day a requiem mass in Nakuru town where they used to stay.
Dozens of mourners gathered in the sleepy Muhereshwa village in Mbaruk to pay their last respects to late Gakara and his two children.
Family members, friends and relatives gathered at an open field for the burial service before a private internment at the home.
During their burial however, the ‘last soil’ that signifies that the dead has been returned to where they came from was not thrown on the three coffins as it is custom in many burials.
No soil was thrown into the graves of Dr. Gakara and his two children after their coffins were lowered.
Dr. Gakara was buried in a separate grave while his son and daughter were laid to rest in the same grave.
A family member stated that they had agreed that the cemented graves with tiles would not be touched by any soil.
The two graves were left hollow but were later covered with a slab after the burial rite was over and mourners left.
Dr. Gakara, 54, died on September 22 while receiving treatment at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital where he was taken after he was found unconscious in his house.
The children were found dead in their bedroom. Police said Dr. Gakara injected his two children with some unknown drug before injecting himself with the same substance.
