Gachagua Sets Record Straight on 2032 Presidential Race

Date:

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua absolved himself from the 2032 Presidential contest politics.

Speaking on Sunday November 19,  the Second in Command insisted that he was focused on helping President William Ruto deliver on his campaign pledges.

Gachagua thus made it clear that he was not interested in being dragged in the succession politics.

“The people talking about 2032 succession politics are lost. I do not want anyone to involve me in that debate, I’m busy assisting the President to run this country. We have no time to engage in useless unproductive debate about 2032,” Gachagua made it clear.

Gachagua’s sentiments came amidst fears of political battle with Chief Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Recently, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale ignited the debate insisting that 2032 presidential contest was reserved for the Western region.

“Deputy President listen to me, whether you like it or not in 2032, the way Uhuru left and Ruto entered, when Ruto leaves it will be a Luhya who will enter,” he said.

” It has to be clear. Nobody at the national level or the county level is going to play cheap politics on us. If it’s about education, I’m more learned and four times more experienced than the Deputy President,” he added.

Khalwale said the divide-and-rule tactic to weaken senior politicians in Western and other regions ahead of the 2032 polls will not work.

However, Gachagua shrugged off the comments insisting that the country had more urgent issues like fixing the economy and lowering the cost of living.

The succession debate pitting Mt Kenya leaders and their western counterpart extended to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Mt Kenya leaders led by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga stated that UDA party deputy leader should be reserved to the region.

Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga has insisted that the next UDA Secretary General should come from Mt Kenya.

The Senator said that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would support Kiharu Mp Ndindi Nyoro for the SG position.

“Ndindi is a young leader and can lead and the DP would support him. In our meeting we said that the SG must come from Mt Kenya,” Wamatinga said.

Analyst noted that the new demands could have forced Ruto to postpone grassroots elections scheduled for December.
