DP Rigathi Gachagua has affirmed that he has no issues with Raila Odinga’s leadership.
During the official launch of Raila’s AU bid launch at the statehouse on Tuesday, Gachagua said that his troubles with Raila was only because they were competing for governance.
“Somebody may ask why is Rigathi Gachagua who has before had issues with the leadership of Raila Odinga. As a truthful person I had nothing against him. It is only that we were competing for the same position between him and my boss,” the second in command said.
He further assured the former opposition leader of his support as well as that of all Kenyans.
“Now that he is going for a bigger seat in Africa, all of us, from the president, I and the rest of Kenya are behind him. The Right honorable Raila Odinga, as the man who listens to the ground, let me confirm to you, I have listened to the ground and all Kenyans across the political divide, across communities are in support of your candidature. We wish you well,” Gachagua said.
The DP went on to acknowledge the role that Raila’s wife Ida had played to get him to where he is, while advocating for family’s support.
“Let me acknowledge the place of family not only in our lives but also in leadership. This great moment moment or the Right honorable, it is appropriate that I acknowledge on behalf of the country the role Mama Ida Odinga has played in the life of this great son of our country.
“Mama Ida Odinga we salute you for having been a very strong pillar to your husband, in very difficult times and his lowest moments you have always been there for him. We ask family to always support their spouses,” Gachagua said.
He further wished that Ida, who turned 74 recently, will celebrate her next birthday at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
“If the president is unable to attend I will represent you,” Gachagua said.
