Immediate former Anaikboi MP William Chepkut died on Saturday October 8. According to his family, Chepkut collapsed while he was at his home and was pronounced dead after being rushed to Mediheal hospital in Parklands, Nairobi.
Kenyans have mourned Chepkut saying they will miss him, because he was among the funniest MPs the country has ever had. Many have however hailed the ex-MP, who referred to himself as the only soul alive, as a man with a good heart.
Chepkut unsuccessfully defended his seat in this year’s general elections. He was trounced by UDA’s Simon Chepkonga.
He was first elected into the August House in 2017 on an Independent ticket and this year he had hoped to secure his seat independently. Chepkut was a powerful minister in Moi’s era and also served as a personal assistant of Nicholas Biwott.
He is however a man who has survived a number of life threatening situations since 2002.
In April 2022, he opened up on how he was poisoned in 2002 and was confined in a hospital bed for six months at Nairobi Hospital.
“In 2002 before the handover of power, I was given poison, but I survived. All my organs were…(affected). I was given a kidney transplant,” he said after joining other leaders in paying their last respects to Mwai Kibaki.
In his life he underwent kidney transplant twice.
In July 2021, the former lawmaker suffered an accident while in a Nairobi hotel and lost consciousness. Apparently, he missed a step, tripped and rolled several times.
“I fainted and was rushed to the hospital where I received treatment and was discharged,” he narrated in an interview in November last year.
He then left for he went to Dubai for a medical consultation where doctors advised him to undergo surgeries because of the injuries on his legs.Â
“I took it lightly and went back home [to rest] before traveling to Uganda to undertake other duties,” he said
While in Uganda, he suffered another accident, fracturing his arm and one of his knees. He was rushed to hospital while in a critical condition and he was subjected to a lengthy surgery.
“In the hand there is a plate and a screw, so in two years or three years depending on their compatibility, they’ll remove the screw and the plate,” he said.\
