The actual age of the Anne Adhiambo Akinyi, the key suspect in the murder of the late Nairobi Hospital Acting Finance Director Eric Maigo has been revealed.
According to detectives, the suspect is not 17-18 years old as it had been revealed before.
Following a mental and age assessment that was conducted on Wednesday at Mathari Hospital, Nairobi, it was established that Akinyi is approximately 21 0r 22 years old and she is fit to stand trial.
The murder case will be mentioned in court on October 28.
Akinyi was arrested in Olympic state on September 26 after a manhunt by police. This is after she was captured on CCTV footage escaping from Maigo’s home on the morning of September 15 after the gruesome murder.
Maigo’s lifeless body was found with 25 stab wounds. He was since buried in Nyaribari Chache, Kisii county.
The suspect was arraigned in court on September 27 whereby the court allowed detectives to detain her for 21 days as they conclude investigations.
Speaking to the media previously, Akinyi’s mother said that she had an argument with her on the September 14, the night that Maigo was murdered. Akinyi reportedly later left the house and came back.
“I told Adhiambo I could have beaten her because I asked a question, and she didn’t answer although she was the one who spent most of the time in the house.I saw her come in and close the door while I was going to the bedroom. She went ahead and picked her mattress, and I went to sleep knowing that she was ready to sleep,” narrated the mother.
She later disappeared from home during the night.
“The other kids woke up early the next morning at 6am and told me that Adhiambo was not in the house, I wondered where she had gone to that early,” the mother said.
