Francis Wanderi resigns voluntarily from IEBC after Juliana Cherera and Justus Nyang’aya

Date:

Francis Wanderi, a commissioner for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

He contends that unfair criticism has led to his decision to quit and has compromised his ability to serve on the panel.

He was one of the four commissioners President William Ruto suspended.

A section of the statement read, “This decision, while exceedingly painful and traumatic for me and my family, has been prompted by unfair and unwarranted public lynching based on false information, ruining my reputation and integrity.”

Following the resignations of IEBC Vice Chair Juliana Cherera on December 2 and Justus Nyang’aya on December 5, Francis Wanderi is the third commissioner to leave the electoral body in recent days.

Mr. Wanderi disputed any assumption that his departure amounted to an admission of guilt on the charges brought against him.

“I remain hopeful that the rule of law as envisaged in the Constitution will continue to safeguard all Kenyans and trust that the Government will institute a standing body to address the corporate governance issues within IEBC, including disputes among Commissioners, to avoid future “boardroom raptures” he added.
