Cotu secretary generalĀ Francis Atwoli has been forced to respond to claims that he is resigning from his position.
Claims that he was resigning were made public by Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi who is a key ally of the recently elected president William Ruto.
According to him, Atwoli was fronting his successor which other members of the organization did not agree with and a meeting has been scheduled this Wednesday in order to settle the issue.
“HNIB agents are reporting that COTU SG Francis Atwoli has finally decided to take a BACKSEAT. However, he is trying to force a successor. The Labour Movement is however resisting his decision. Atwoli has called an emergency meeting of the Labour Movement tomorrow..,” Itumbi wrote.
In a quick rejoinder, Atwoli explained why he had convened a meeting, asking Itumbi to shun from peddling lies and join them instead.
“This is a sad moment for us following the death of Bro. Isiah Kubai who was the GS of BIFU. We have called for a meeting to conduct a fundraiser in preparation for the burial on Friday in Meru. Because you come from those sides you should join us instead of peddling lies,” the COTU boss responded to Itumbi.
He further made it clear that he is serving his final term as COTU secretary general in accordance with the constitution.
“Further, matters COTU (K) leadership is a COTU (K) constitutional issue and not an Atwoli issue. As of now, I am in office serving my last term.,” he said.
Atwoli was re-elected unopposed to serve as COTU secretary general for the fifth timeĀ in April last year.
He was recently forced to respond to claims that he had fled the country over fear of Rutoās win. Atwoli said that the viral photo of him at an airport was taken five years ago.
