Prof George Magoha has passed away.
Magoha, 71, was appointed as the fourth Cabinet Secretary for Education since Uhuru’s election in 2013.
In March 2019, Prof. George Magoha was named Education CS, succeeding Amina Mohammed as the previous CS.
On Tuesday, March 26, he took the oath of office at State House Nairobi in front of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Uhuru stated during his swearing-in that he trusted the former university professor to take the nation’s education to greater levels because of his background in the field.
Before being appointed, Magoha served as the chairman of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), where he was credited with initiating the council’s reforms.
“So you are not coming into a field that is new to you. You are very familiar with it and I am really counting on you help us and to support us to ensure that we are able to deliver to the people of Kenya; especially this issue of one hundred per cent transition,” Uhuru praised Magoha’s appointment.
After the Jubilee government was ousted following the elections on August 9, Magoha returned to the teaching as a university professor on January 17.
He began working at Maseno University in Kisumu as a professor of surgery in the medical school.
Rest in peace.
