Former devolution CS Charles Keter has broken his silence after losing in UDA nominations that were conducted on Thursday April 14.
Keter was among those who were eyeing UDA’s ticket for the Kericho county gubernatorial seat ahead of the August 9 general elections but University Don Eric Mutai emerged victorious.
In a tweet, Keter thanked all those who supported him in the nominations and at the same time congratulated those who emerged victorious.Â
“I thank the great people of Kericho for turning up to vote peacefully in the just concluded nominations exercise. Congratulations to all winners. I wish them all the best. To all my supporters, agents and teams, I convey my appreciation and gratitude for your support. God bless you and God bless Kericho. Happy Easter!!” he said.Â
Mutai emerged victorious after garnering 128,038 votes. The former CS came second with 60,342 votes.
Others who were interested in flying UDA’s flag in the same position include James Sang who got 2,987 votes and the sitting deputy governor Lily Ngok who garnered 9, 377 votes.
Keter resigned as the minister of devolution in February this year to pursue his political ambitions. He also served as the Energy CS in President Kenyatta’s cabinet.
Engineer Fred Kirui had also intended to contest for the ticket but he shelved his ambitions on Tuesday and accepted to be Mutai’s running mate.
After being handed the nomination certificate, Mutai lauded his supporters for showing up in large numbers to exercise their democratic right.Â
“Kericho County has spoken through the ballot; It is a command that my brother Engineer Fred Kirui and myself have graciously obliged to. The unanimity with which all the six sub counties have granted us the popular lead is no coincidence but a genuine desire for a fresh start, Mutai said.
