Several flight attendants of Ugandan Airlines have been fired following an incident whereby a man was caught on camera hawking grasshoppers inside a plane.
According to a video that was shared online, the man, who was also a passenger on the flight no. 446 that was headed to Dubai, was hawking the local delicacy popularly known as Nsenene at the time when passengers were boarding the flight.
The incident occurred on Friday November 26 and has been condemned by Ugandan Airlines management because of the disruptions to the smooth boarding of the flight.
“We don’t condone the act of the passengers selling Nzenene and the low standards of serving to people who were buying it. We will not take this conduct on board lightly because it undermines the spirit of the national carrier,” Ugandan Airlines said in a statement.

The management however said that it had learnt that some of their customers enjoy the long horned grasshopper delicacy and that they were considering adding the meal to their menu for regional and international flights following requests.
“This addition of Nzenene on our menu will bring Ugandan culture to the world. Our key products are people and the experience,” the airlines stated.
“The move will boost tourism marketing and the livelihood of the people in the grasshopper value chain going forward,” the statement further read.
The airline further said that it was in talks with the passenger who was involved and such an occurrence in future will lead to him being off-loaded without considerations.
“No one should be exposed to unruly market experience on our flight. The unacceptable disruptive behavior prevents the performance of critical duties of the crew,” the airline said.
