Hundreds of residents including children living at a Children’s home have been left homeless after a huge fire razed down their premises on Sunday night, March 3.
The broke out at around midnight in the Mradi Area in Embakasi and spread faster to other adjacent structures mostly constructed using iron sheets.
From videos shared online, residents struggled to extinguish the fire but they were overpowered thus causing greater damages.
It is not yet clear if any of the residents and children were hurt in the inferno.
Embakasi East member of parliament, Babu Owino confirmed the incident announcing that the huge fire has reduced the children’s home to ashes.
“Sad news as fire razed down a children’s Home in Mradi, Embakasi. The helpless kids have been left homeless. Continue praying for us in Embakasi East,” he stated.
By the time of this publication, the cause of the fire was yet to be known. The extent of the damage and value of the property lost was also not immediately revealed.
Mradi area is where a gas explosion was reported which left over 270 injured and seven others dead. The explosion forced the government to review the licensing of gas plants in residential areas.
Governor Johnson Sakaja banned gas refill plants operating in residential areas announcing an immediate crackdown to shut them down.
