Wajir County impeached governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud on Tuesday forced his way into the county government offices while announcing his comeback.
The governor who was escorted by his supporters insisted that he is the governor and that he will head the county until the next general elections.
Addressing the crowds that had gathered to witness his comeback, the embattled governor said that he was willing to work with his deputy, Ahmed Muktar who is the current governor after his impeachment in May.
“As politicians let us come together and serve our people. The court has allowed me to work as the Wajir governor and my deputy will work as the deputy until this case is heard and determined,” he said.
Mohamed also promised the masses of a peaceful coexistence and fulfillment of the promises he made to them during the campaigns of the last general elections.
“Let us move forward and look into the problems that our people are facing especially in this time where we are facing serious drought and there is a shortage of food,” he stated.
Governor Muktar on his side accused Mohamed of breaking into his office. Through a social media post, he accused Mohamed of vandalism.
“The former Governor of Wajir County, Mohamed Abdi Mohamud today broke into my office. The penal code on vandalism is very clear on such matters.”
The incumbent further revealed that he was going to take a legal step against the former governor.
“As I officially lodge a complaint to the National Police Service on this act, vandalism on a government office is illegal and amounts to treasonous charges,” Muktar stated.
He further said that the county government under his leadership was not going to tolerate the act of indecency, illegal take over and irresponsible assembling that compromises the security of the County Headquarters.
Mohamed’s was impeached by the senators following numerous accusations from Wajir MCAs. He was accused of violating the constitution, abuse of office and corruption.
The governor moved to court to challenge his impeachment. The court ruled that he stays in office until his case is heard and determined. However when the judgment was being delivered, Muktar had already been sworn as Wajir governor.
