From Grace To Grass: Popular Machachari Twin Brothers Struggling To Make Ends Meet After Years Of Fame

Date:

Machachari show came to an end in October 2019 after being aired on Citizen TV for a period of 13 years to entertain children.

The popular show that revolved around children and their daily activities came to an end because the characters were no longer children and therefore it was no longer relevant to the target audience.

Some of the Machachari cast are still in the limelight to date and are doing well like Baha,  Govi, and Stellah. Others like Almasi left the country to concentrate on other things but for others like Muthuri and Muthure, who are real-life twins, the end of the show shut doors for them.

The twins joined Machachari in 2012 after the producers were pleased with how they performed in the auditions.

Speaking to Eve Mungai, the twins, who live in Mwihoko, revealed that they now survive on menial jobs aside from being chalk boys at pool games.

The duo said that they try to cope up with challenges and they face a lot of criticisms which they try to avoid.

“After the show ended, people in the streets took us badly so you just have to humble yourself, you can not go to steal and therefore you have to depend on other things but people can’t stop talking, they will say you have no money and such kind of stuff,” Muthure said.

Muthuri said that after Machachari ended people would accord them less respect and it was never the same as it was while the show was on.

“For me the show was normal because we started when we were kids, it was not a big deal for me, now because it ended people ask if I stopped acting, they disrespect you but all you just ignore because there is nothing you can do,” he said.

They further acknowledged that the money they got paid for acting catered for lots of their needs including education, house rent and food.

Aside from the menial job, Muthure also engages himself with script writing even though that has not earned him a penny yet. They have however not lost hope and are looking forward to being back on the screens someday in future.
