A 95-year old woman from Baricho in Kirinyaga county has been accused of trespassing by her second born daughter.
The woman was taken to court after she went to demand rent from tenants in two plots that had been left by her husband who passed on in 2015 as her inheritance.
According to one of her sons, who had taken her to court for the proceedings in Baricho Law Courts, his sister changed the details of the ownership of the properties and put them under her name.
“This is my mother, I had brought her here in court because she has been accused of trespassing. My father passed on in 2015. From there we went to follow up dad’s properties where she knew her plot was, we realized that the plot’s ownership had been changed by my other sister. So my mother has never enjoyed the fruits of the wealth that was left behind for her by her husband,” he told journalists outside the Law Court.
Since 2015, there has been no progress in the case as they have been taken back and forth. The woman is currently being driven on a wheelchair yet the case began when she would walk on her two legs.
They tried solving the matter amicably but the sister refused to surrender the rent money to elderly woman.
“My mother is 95 year, this sister of mine is about 65, she is able and can work but she does not help our mother,” the man said
The elderly woman was accused alongside her other son identified as Martin Waweru Mburu together with her other three children identified as Julius Muthee, Lucy Wamwiru and George Wanjohi.
According to Mburu, the sister in question even took over their mother’s name, Sabina,
“Sabina is not her name, that is my mother’s name and now her child is called Sabina. I knew she had a wicked plan when she started calling herself Sabina so that when my dad passes on, she pretends that she is his wife,” Mburu said.
The elderly woman is said to be suffering from arthritis, blood pressure and hypertension
