Police have launched a fresh investigation into the disappearance of former Kerio Valley Development Authority Silvanos Tubei, who went missing in September 26, 2012.
The investigations come at a time when remains of a body believed to be his were discovered at his 60-acre Chepkurm farm in Elgeyo Marakwet on December 31.
The body was exhumed on January 4, with the remains transported to Moi Teaching and Referral hospital for DNA profiling.
Keiyo South Sub-county police commander Abdulah Dahir called upon the public to provide any information that will be crucial in the missing person case.
“Up to now we can not declare that these remains are for Silvanos’,” he said
Tubei’s second wife had been linked to his disappearance after she was found with his cellphone but was later acquitted by the court due to lack of sufficient evidence.
“Usually when someone disappears from their home, the first suspect is the spouse. All suspects were released due to lack of evidence. So now we don’t have any suspects and we are starting the investigations afresh,” Dahir added.
Tubei’s family believe that the remains are his since clothes that were found by his remains matched the ones he was wearing before he went missing.
“The wife was in this home. She informed us that Tubei left to get electric wires for his house. It went on like that, we gathered and questioned her but we never found out how he went missing,” Tubei’s brother Alexander said.
Another relative said that they encountered lots of challenges while trying to establish Tubei’s whereabout. They however gave up when their efforts failed to bear any fruits.
He added that shortly before Tubei went missing, he had hosted two visitors, suggesting that they should be declared persons of interest in the revival of the case.
“Those people should be found. Before the samples results are out, those people should be in the governments hands. The one who pretended to be her sister was never found until now but the government has a long hand and can found her wherever she is hiding,” the relative said.
