A man posing as a police officers in the streets of Downtown, Nairobi escaped death by a whisker after being rescued by police officers from a mob that had nabbed him.
The middle-aged man was busy making rounds in the streets while harassing innocent Kenyans and some for not wearing masks.
The fake cop was nabbed along the busy River Road by some locals who wanted to see his job identification.
The man however was not able to provide the document something that angered the members of the public who resolved to lynch him.
“The manner in which he was harassing members of the public saw them corner him and when asked to produce his job card, he failed to do so,” Peter Karimi, a hawker along in the area said.
Another witness said that the fake officer had been harassing the members of the public in the wee morning hours and even demanded money from them.
“I just heard a crowd demanding that he gives out his job card and that is how things became bad,” she said.
The witness added that it was discovered that the suspect was not a police officer after he was interrogated.
Police officers arrived just in time to save his precious life and whisked him away on a motorbike after being tipped off by some concerned members of public.
The two officers who arrived at the scene were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the irate crowd.
Elsewhere police in Kakamega are probing the death of a 35-year old man whose body was found in a goldmine near Isukha River in Ikolomani.
The man is said to have been killed by his wife before dumping his body at the goldmine.
According to the deceased’s family, the two had been involved in numerous domestic conflict.
The body of the deceased was moved to Kakamega County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
