Facebook has moved with lightening speed to block Pro-Trump group ‘Stop the Steal’ after threatening violence.
Facebook on November 5th said it had taken down a rapidly growing group where Trump’s supporters posted violent rhetoric and baseless claims that Democrats were stealing the election.
The group was growing rapidly gaining more than 350,000 new members in a day. Facebook said some 1,000 new members were joining ‘Stop the Steal’ every 10 seconds.
Facebook spokeswoman Andrea Vallone explained that that the move to ban ‘Stop the Steal’ was in line with the exceptional measures Facebook was taking during the period of heightened tension.
“The group was organised around the delegitimisation of the election process, and we saw worrying calls for violence from some members of the group,” Facebook spokeswoman said in a statement.
The pro-Trump group was however prepared for Facebook’s ban, directing new members to an email sign-up page in the event that Facebook censors them.
The group was quickly formed after Trump made unsubstantiated claims that he is the victim of mass electoral fraud and vowed to challenge the result in the courts.

The incumbent president falsely claimed that he had won the election, and that he was being rigged out. His comment appeared to be a call to action for his supporters.
Pro-Trump demonstrators chanting “stop the steal” took to the streets of several cities in US after Trump called for vote counting to be stopped.
Biden is shrinking Trump’s lead in Pennsylvania and Georgia as more votes continue coming in, and this is why the incumbent is so scared.
The former Vice president only needs 17 more electoral votes to win. He’s ahead of Trump in both Arizona and Nevada, which collectively would give him the necessary votes.
If Biden flips Pennsylvania and Georgia it will be game over for Trump, as the two states have a combined 36 electoral votes.
Biden currently has 253 electoral votes while Trump has 214. If the former VP wins Pennsylvania and Georgia alone he will have 289 electoral votes. A candidate needs 270 to win the US presidency.
