Music Copyright Society of Kenya boss Dr. Ezekiel Mutua has taken a swipe at the Azimio supporters who are subscribing from Sautisol’s Youtube channel.
According to Ezekiel Mutua, it was okay for the Azimio supporters to register their anger at Sautisol but unsubscribing from their handle was going overboard.
The MCSK added that the musicians ought to have taken advantage of their song being played in the Azimio rally and run with it positively instead of creating unnecessary drama.
“We may have differences of opinion, but unsubscribing from @sautisol YouTube channel is juvenile reaction. Rudini haraka. Sauti Sol remains one of our greatest bands in Kenya’s history and we must not be blinded by politics to the point of hate.” Said Mr. Mutua.
“And on a brighter note, Sauti Sol should have used the adaptation of “Extravaganza” by Azimio to create an “Unbwogable” moment like Gidi Gidi Maji Maji did in 2002. Some moments come once in a lifetime. In any case, is it not a great thing to see our local music being played in these big political events? I would rather have “Extravaganza” and “Sipangwingwi” being played in these political rallies by our top politicians than foreign songs!” He added.
Most of the artists earn from YouTube views and Sautisol were staring at poverty and being broke for the rest of their lives if they kept losing their youtube followers. Well, they can now smile since Mutua is keen on saving them.
This comes after Ezekiel Mutua took a swipe at the Kenya Copyrights Board (Kecobo) for misleading the public since SautiSol as members of MCSK signed their rights to the society to administer copyright on their behalf.
“This is a totally misleading and misguided statement by Kecobo. We licensed the Raila Odinga Presidential campaign using the existing tariffs gazetted by the Govt. Our members, including SautiSol, have assigned their rights to MCSK to administer copyright on their behalf,” Ezekiel Mutua said.
