Enemy Within? 2 Wiper Lawmakers Express Dissatisfaction With Uhuru, Raila State House Luncheon

Date:

192 lawmakers drawn from Jubilee, ODM, ANC, Wiper, Ford Kenya and KANU attended a luncheon at State House which was hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

It was the first time, the President assembled the pro-handshake troops at State House for a rare meeting which was also attended by Raila Odinga.

One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetang’ula and Gideon Moi did not attend the session although they had been invited.

President Uhuru Kenyatta glued the agenda of the Thursday 13th January 2022 meeting to revolve around the Coalition Political Parties Amendment Bill

Both Raila and Uhuru applauded the Pro-handshake lawmakers for defeating DP William Ruto’s allied hardliners for the survival of the bill.

Makueni MP Dan Maanzo said that the Uhuru’s State House meeting was solely attached on “thanksgiving” for the passage of the Coalition Political Parties Amendment Bill (2021) and nothing short or tall would be accepted.

The Wiper MP was quoted by the Standard saying that President Uhuru didn’t give room for the lawmakers to ignite the 9th August election talks.

Maanzo expressed dissatisfaction with the State House meeting saying that Uhuru just ‘had lunch and left them’.

“He simply said that he wanted to thank us for the work we did in parliament and apologized for interrupting our holidays. We had lunch and left us,” Maanzo said.

Another Wiper lawmaker Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior was also disappointed with the State House meeting.

“It didn’t last long, and there was nothing much apart from lunch” Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior said.
