An elderly woman from Nyamaroka village in Rongo, Migori County, is said to have committed suicide over a church debt amounting to Ksh.20,000.
Area Assistant Chief Eddy Onyango said the body of the 60-year-old woman, was on Monday afternoon found hanging from a rope outside her kitchen.
The administrator said the deceased – Ruth Akinyi Ogalo who was a church treasurer used the said amount collected by the church but was unable to refund it.
The assistant chief further stated that the deceased’s son on Sunday has managed to sell one of their a cow to raise Ksh.15000 to pay back part of the Ksh.20,000 she owed the church.

He however said they would not yet determine why the woman still opted to take her one life even after her son had managed to said the said amount.
Mr. Onyango urged the locals to use alternative ways of handling their issues.
