East African Portland Cement on Tuesday, October 17 announced plans to sell some pieces of land amid demolitions in Mavoko Machakos County.
In a notice Published on Nation Africa, East African Portland Cement noted that the sale would be through a regularization model.
The cement company earmarked the following plots for sale: LR 8784/144, 145, and 653.
It further made it clear that priority would be given to those who were already occupying the land.
“First and preferential priority shall be offered to the parties currently occupying sections of the said parcels. Those in this kind of situation are advised to state their claim of the same within 14 days from the date of this notice,” the notice shared by Nation Africa read in part.
“At the expiry of this notice, all unclaimed portions shall be competitively offered to the general public on a willing buyer willing seller basis,” it added.
To guide the buying process, the East African Portland Cement announced that a site office had been set up and an office within EAPC Plc premises along Namanga Road.
The notice came amid demolitions which left hundreds of occupants homeless. The affected persons appealed to President William Ruto to halt the process.
However, demolitions started following President Ruto’s order of vacation.
“I have given clear instructions to the management here that all speculators, people who have held titles to pieces of land for 10, 15, 20, 30 years without developing them, should be revoked so that we can give it to people who want to use this facility,” he ordered then.
The new orders came after reports emerged that the East African Portland Cement was set to be privatized by the government.
A private investor is believed to be interested in acquiring 30 per cent stake in the firm to bring it back to profitability.
